COVER STORY: Many of the participants at the Heartland Swing Festival in Iowa are far too young to remember the heyday of swing dancing. But they're very aware of the roots of the music and the wide variety of swing styles that they love.

SCENIC AMERICA: We explore the Platte River in Nebraska. While too shallow for navigation, the Platte was an important guide for frontiersman heading West. Its beauty is part of its legacy.

FAMOUS PLACES: Lover's Leap at Lookout Mountain near Chattanooga is located about 1700 feet above sea level. It's part of Rock City which, along with nearby Ruby Falls, draws thousands of tourists each year.

ON A MUSICAL NOTE: The Cincinnati Early Music Festival features the unusual instruments associated with the Renaissance and Baroque eras. They create music that is considered a precursor to classical music.

TIME CAPSULE: A century ago the United States established the draft to multiple the size of the Army as America entered what became World War I. General John J. Pershing, who led the forces, quickly became a national figure.

SPRING FEATURE: Orchids, cactus plants and bonsai trees are some of the species we see to celebrate Spring at Krohn Conservatory in Cincinnati. The venue also has a popular butterfly show each year.
