ON A MUSICAL NOTE: Members of community choruses perform for the pure enjoyment of singing and the Jubilant Singers are prime examples. We looked in on their lively winter concerts.
OFF THE BEATEN PATH: Two Episcopal churches in Ashe County, North Carolina contain fresco paintings by a world-renowned artist. They're just part of the charm that draws lots of tourists to the town of West Jefferson and Ashe County.

TIME CAPSULE: Eighty men known as Doolittle's Raiders flew a bombing raid over Tokyo in 1942. Three of the last four survivors were at the U.S. Air Force Museum in Ohio for what was called the group's final toast.

WINTER FEATURE: The Fraser firs along the slopes of Ashe County, North Carolina, represent a huge enterprise. The firs provide popular Christmas trees to tens of thousands of people east of the Mississippi River. And these trees have made it to the White House on several occasions.
