Activity Director's Corner

Fall Activity Tips

Many Activity Directors enhance their programs by using a song or a segment from the scores of videos by Sentimental Programs. Here are some suggestions for Autumn:

SWEETEST DAY (October 19)
Serenades & Sweetheart Songs is the title of Volume 7 of the Sentimental Sing-Along Collection. Right now it is available FREE on our digital network (sdnvideo.com). Pick a song like “The Sweetheart of Sigma Chi” or “Yes, Sir That’s My Baby.” Or play the whole 35-minute program, which has 13 songs perfect for the occasion.

PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION
Looking for a non-partisan way to involve residents in the election season? Try Hail To The Chiefs, our informative Timeless Trivia program that recalls presidents, First Ladies and memorable elections: some landslides and some squeakers. It is also FREE right now on our digital network.

VETERANS DAY (November 11)
Summer holidays aren’t the only time when patriotic citizens celebrate the nation and our veterans. And what better time than Veterans Day, November 11th. The relatively new Veterans Memorial & Museum in Columbus, Ohio gives veterans their due all year round. It’s the Cover Story in Reflections One on the Sentimental Digital Network.

 APPLES, PUMPKINS & PRETZELS
You can make a video visit to the National Apple Harvest Festival near Gettysburg, Pennsylvania to see how thousands experience harvest time each year. It is available on the digital network (Reflections Twenty-One) and on DVD. There are also enjoyable video segments on pumpkin patches and a fall pretzel festival in Germantown, Ohio.

Feedback

The feedback Sentimental Productions receives from activity professionals is almost universally upbeat. It is heartening to learn that the videos produced by Sentimental Productions evoke fond memories for thousands of residents of nursing homes, assisted living facilities and retirement communities.

Most of all it is reassuring to hear that Sentimental Productions programs help activity professionals do their jobs better. Many report that the videos help them reach their residents with Alzheimer's and late stage dementia. "You fill a special need," writes Linda Bland from Sheboygan Progressive Care Center in Wisconsin. "I have found that when I can't reach a resident any other way, I can reach them with music."

Sentimental Productions has worked closely with the National Association of Activity Professionals and attends the group's annual convention each year. We constantly seek input for future programs and delight in hearing the many uses for Sentimental Productions programs.

"I was amazed, my residents had a blast. They were singing, laughing and reminiscing about the good old days. My residents were having so much fun!"
